Otoplasty

Hello, I will explain what otoplasty is and who the candidates for this procedure are. Otoplasty is a procedure done to reduce the size of protruding ears. It is a surgical and minimally invasive procedure that can even be done in the operating room. An incision is made behind the ear, which is not usually noticeable, and requires sutures that are removed after about 10 days. A fold is made in the cartilage to pin the ear back, and it is used for people with prominent ears due to two types of deformities: one where the concha is too prominent, and another where the normal fold is absent, causing the ear to stick out. This procedure can be done in the office with or without sedation, or in the operating room for more comfort. It usually doesn't require a complicated recovery process, just a bandage around the head to limit ear swelling.
